VISIBILITY IN RECOMMENDATIONS GEO / AEO
When they ask,do they name you?
I measure whether ChatGPT and other services recommend your business.
Then I identify what to change so they have the right information about you.

ADVERTISING INCHATGPT
Your ad, right
below the answer.
Your ad may appear beneath a ChatGPT answer. See an example of the placement here, then the steps below for how it works.
Ask about advertisingWhat I measure: The businesses the answer names on its own. Paying for an ad does not buy a place in that answer.
The business and answer are fictional. OpenAI controls the actual ad layout. Rules checked on 2 October 2026. Sources: ads in ChatGPT, availability and eligibility rules.
How it works
Advertising on ChatGPT, step by step.
OpenAI is still testing the platform and its rules can change. I check them again before setting anything up.
Paid visibility alongside recommendations
OpenAI currently lists self-service Ads Manager access for businesses based in the UK and the US. An ad is a paid placement alongside the conversation. It does not buy a mention in ChatGPT’s answer. Account access and ad approval are separate checks.
- UK and US availability
- Separate from recommendations
Below the answer, labelled Sponsored
Ads may appear below an answer, visually separated and labelled Sponsored. OpenAI says they do not influence the answer. Eligible Free and Go users may see them; Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise and Edu accounts do not.

Conversation intent and location
Relevance depends on the conversation, your ad and landing page, context hints and targeting. You describe relevant situations rather than relying only on keywords. Location options vary by country. Broader account signals may be used where personalisation is enabled. Advertisers do not see people’s chats.
- Conversation context
- Location where supported
- No access to chats
Check your category and market first
Eligibility rules differ by category and country. Health, financial and legal services can have additional restrictions or approval requirements; not every business in those sectors is eligible. Political advertising and several other categories are prohibited. I check your specific offer before setting up an account.
- Market-specific rules
- Restricted categories

Your account, with OpenAI billing you directly
You set up the account for your business, add your payment method and invite me to manage it. OpenAI bills for delivered ads. Campaign options include payment by impressions or clicks. I confirm the current minimum budget and payment terms before you start.

- Pay OpenAI directly
- Impressions or clicks
Verification, copy, tracking and reporting
I help with verification, write the ad copy, set up OpenAI’s tracking on your website and check access for its advertising crawler. I then report ad performance separately from organic recommendations. My setup and management work is billed separately, with terms agreed in writing.

Named in a recommendation
30 questions, each asked once
Green marks an answer that named the business
- Website in search sources
- Found
- Website link in the answer
- Cited
- Business detailsphone, email, address
- Correct phone
In this example, the service found the website, linked to it and gave the correct phone number. Those are three separate findings.

Green marks an answer that named the business
- Website in search sources
- Found
- Website link in the answer
- Not cited
- Business detailsphone, email, address
- Wrong address
In this example, the service names the business most often, but gives no website link and the wrong street number. Frequent mentions do not mean accurate details.

In this example, the website did not appear in the recorded sources. A single measurement cannot show that the service does not know it.
How I measure
How I measure, in detail.
I ask ChatGPT, Gemini and Claude the questions your customers would ask. 30 questions without your name, with web search enabled. I then review each answer: whether it names you, who it names instead and which sources it uses.
I follow the same procedure so the results can be compared with a later measurement. Your website is enough to start; no logins or passwords. You decide on repairs after seeing the results.

Your brief
Send your website, what you offer and where. I use this to choose the appropriate question set. An online shop’s customers ask different questions from those of a local garage.

30 questions without your name
I ask as a customer would: who is best, a top three, comparisons, urgent needs, prices and reviews. Your name is left out so the answer cannot simply repeat it. If you name competitors your customers mention, I add “an alternative to…” questions and count them separately. I leave out questions comparing medical providers for medical practices and publicly funded care.
“Who is best for roof repairs in Manchester?”
“What are the top three roof repair companies in Manchester? Rank them.”
“I need an urgent roof repair in Manchester. Who can help quickly?”
Every question in 3 services
I ask with web search enabled: ChatGPT and Claude once, Gemini twice. Gemini is repeated because its answers vary more between runs. I include today’s date and, for local businesses, an approximate location where supported. For the first 15 questions, I also ask a follow-up in the same conversation in each service. Google checks are optional. Seznam Asistent is an additional option for businesses targeting the Czech market.

4 questions about your business
What the services know about you, how to contact you, your reviews and customer complaints. I ask with and without web search to separate stored knowledge from information they look up. I check phone numbers, email addresses and postal addresses against your actual details, and opening hours if you provide them. When a detail is wrong, I look for its source.
- Correct phone
- Correct email
- Wrong address
24 additional answers. I review descriptions of your services manually.
Review every answer
Did your name come up? Did the service recommend you, mention you or advise against you? Who did it name instead? Did it search, which websites did it find and which did it cite? I review name variants and uncertain cases manually, and count them only after confirming them.

What crawlers see on your website
I check access for the crawlers used by ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude and Copilot, and Seznam where relevant to the Czech market. I inspect the homepage without JavaScript, machine-readable business details and contact information. I also check for conflicting details on your website and broken links cited in the answers.

Your results and a repair plan
How many answers named you, out of the total, with an uncertainty range. Which details were wrong and which websites or directories supplied them. Which sources feature your competitors but not you, and which customer questions lack a useful page on your website. I prioritise repairs by their likely impact, with a specific finding behind each one. You receive all the answers in a spreadsheet.
Example: 3 out of 30 answers does not mean exactly 10%. The uncertainty range is about 3% to 26%. Measure again
After an agreed interval, I use the same questions, services and number of repetitions. I report an improvement only when the comparison shows a clear difference beyond the expected variation. Otherwise, the conclusion is: no clear difference found.

- A change or chance?
What this measurement cannot tell you. I ask ChatGPT, Gemini and Claude through developer APIs, without a customer account or its history. A customer’s app may answer differently. Optional Google checks and Czech-market Seznam checks use one answer per question, so I treat them as a snapshot of that day. I can check whether a Google AI Overview cites your website, but cannot reliably count its business mentions because the tool does not return complete lists. This measurement does not include website traffic.
What I record with the results. The model and settings for each service. If they change between measurements, I show the results side by side without treating the difference as a measured improvement.

BEFORE YOU CONTACT ME
Good questions.
Straight answers.
I can promise the work.
The services decide who to recommend.
Can you guarantee recommendations?
No. I can document what the measurement found, make the agreed repairs and compare a later measurement. I cannot control the answer or your position in it.
Isn’t one ChatGPT question enough?
One answer is one sample. I normally ask 30 questions that customers would ask. Gemini is repeated because its answers vary more between runs. This helps distinguish regular mentions from occasional ones. I assess each service separately.
Do I need a new website?
Often, changes to your existing content or information elsewhere are enough. If I find a technical limitation, I explain it and propose a specific fix.
Do ChatGPT ads influence the answer?
OpenAI says no. Ads appear separately below the answer and are labelled Sponsored. I measure recommendations and advertising separately, and report their results separately.
More questions (5)
How does ChatGPT ad billing work?
You pay OpenAI directly for delivered ads using your business payment method. OpenAI sets the minimum budget; I confirm its current requirements before you start. The account belongs to your business and you invite me to manage it. My setup and management work is billed separately, with terms agreed in writing. Eligibility depends on your category and market, particularly for health, financial and legal services.
Will you see what my customer sees?
Not exactly. I measure ChatGPT, Gemini and Claude through their developer APIs, without a customer account or its history. I include today’s date and, for local businesses, an approximate location where supported. A customer’s app may use their account, precise location or earlier messages. I explain these differences in the report. The market, language and scope of any optional Google checks are agreed separately.
When should we measure again?
We agree on an interval based on the changes made. A repeat measurement usually makes sense after several weeks. A better result is not guaranteed, even after that time.
Do you also check Google?
Yes, as an optional extension. I check AI Mode, whether AI Overviews cite your website, search results for short “service + location” queries and your exact business name. The market, language and available checks are agreed before the measurement. I cannot reliably count how often an AI Overview names you because the tool does not return complete business lists. An overview will not appear for every question; I record that too.
What about Seznam for the Czech market?
For businesses targeting the Czech market, yes, as an optional extension. I ask the first 15 questions manually in a browser, each in a fresh conversation, and save the date and a screenshot. Sponsored results are recorded separately and are not counted as recommendations. I also check access for Seznam’s crawler and, for local businesses, their Firmy.cz listing.
